When is orthodontic treatment needed?
- Crowded teeth or gaps.
- Protruding front teeth, a crossbite or an open bite.
- Difficulty cleaning teeth because of their position.
Types of orthodontic treatment
- Fixed braces: metal or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets.
- Clear aligners: removable transparent trays changed at intervals, suitable for selected cases.
- Children's appliances: functional appliances that guide jaw growth at an early age.
After orthodontics
A retainer is essential to stop teeth moving back. Wear it as instructed — usually full-time at first, then at night.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an age limit for braces?
No — orthodontics works at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy; for children an early assessment at age 7 is recommended.
Do braces hurt?
You may feel pressure or mild soreness for the first days after fitting or adjustment; it eases within two to three days.
What can't I eat with fixed braces?
Avoid sticky and very hard foods (chewing gum, hard nuts, ice) and cut food into small pieces.
