Braces: when to start and how long do they take?
We get orthodontic questions from parents about their children and from adults about themselves. The good news: it is never too late for braces.
๐ฌ One of our patients' most common questions
For children
A first assessment is recommended around age 7 โ not because treatment must start, but to spot jaw-growth problems early and guide them. Track your child's teeth with the tooth eruption calculator.
For adults
Orthodontics is possible at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy, and clear aligners are a comfortable option for many adults.
Duration
Usually 12โ24 months depending on the case, with check-ups every 4โ6 weeks, followed by a retainer to keep the result.
