2:00
Press “Start” and begin with the upper right.
How to brush, step by step
- Use a fluoride toothpaste (a pea-sized amount for adults).
- Tilt the brush 45° towards the gum line and use small, gentle circles.
- Spend 30 seconds on each quarter: outer, inner, then chewing surfaces.
- Finish by brushing your tongue to reduce bad breath.
- Spit out, don’t rinse — so the fluoride stays on your teeth.
📝 Why two minutes?
Plaque is a sticky layer of bacteria that keeps forming on your teeth. A brush needs enough time to reach every surface — outer, inner and chewing surfaces in all four quarters. Splitting the time into 4 × 30 seconds makes sure no area is missed, especially the inner surfaces of the lower teeth and the back molars, where tartar usually builds up.
For kids: “Kids” mode turns brushing into a short game. Ideally a parent helps until the child is about 7 years old.

Frequently asked questions
How long should you brush your teeth?
At least two minutes, twice a day (morning and before bed), as recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA). Most people brush for under a minute, so a timer helps.
Should I rinse with water after brushing?
It is better to spit out the toothpaste and not rinse straight away, so the fluoride stays on your teeth and strengthens the enamel (NHS advice).
Is an electric toothbrush better than a manual one?
A 2014 Cochrane review found that rotating powered toothbrushes reduce plaque by about 21% and gingivitis by about 11% after 3 months compared with manual brushes. Time and technique still matter most.
Should I brush right after eating?
After acidic food or drinks (juice, fizzy drinks) wait about an hour before brushing, because the enamel is temporarily softer.
How often should I change my toothbrush?
Every 3 to 4 months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
