Are dental implants painful? Questions before your implant
Implants raise lots of questions. We collected the most frequent ones and answered them.
๐ฌ One of our patients' most common questions
Does it hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure but no pain. Mild pain and swelling for two or three days afterwards is managed with ordinary painkillers.
How long does it take?
Placing the implant takes 30โ90 minutes. Then the bone integrates for 2โ4 months, followed by the final crown.
I have bone loss โ can I still get an implant?
Usually yes, with a bone graft or, for upper back teeth, a sinus lift; a 3D scan measures the bone precisely.
Diabetes and smoking
Well-controlled diabetes is not a barrier. Smoking lowers the success rate, so it is best to stop before and after surgery.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an upper age limit for implants?
No โ what matters is general health and enough bone.
Can I eat normally with an implant?
Yes, once it has integrated and the crown is fitted; it feels very close to a natural tooth.
